Implications of the newly enacted GPO/WEP repeal bill
The Division of Retirement and Benefits has received the following information regarding the Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provision that affects retiree Social Security Benefits for those who do not have 30 years of Social Security service. This act eliminates these offsets to Social Security benefits. More information will be available from Social Security as they work to implement this new law. Please see the announcement below for more information.
A Message from the National Association of State Retirement Administrators
On Sunday, January 5, the Social Security Fairness Act, repealing the Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provisions, was signed into law. The Social Security Administration has announced that it is evaluating how to implement the new Act (it is effective for payments after December 2023) and stated it will provide information as soon as possible.
