New Phone Scam Claims To Be From Aetna
The Division of Retirement and Benefits has received information about possible fraudulent calls from scammers claiming to be from Aetna, our third-party administrator for the AlaskaCare health plans. These scammers are attempting to trick you into giving away valuable personal information, such as your Social Security number and date of birth, so it can be used in fraudulent activity or sold illegally.
It is important to remember NEVER give sensitive or confidential information over the phone without verifying the caller is legitimate.
What to do if you are contacted:
If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Division, but you suspect they are not, then:
- Record the caller's name, call back number, and caller ID if available.
- Call (800) 821-2251 and confirm the caller is a Division employee.
- If the caller is not a Division employee, contact the Department of Law Consumer Protection Unit at (907) 269-5200 or toll-free outside Anchorage at (888) 576-2529 and report the scam.
